road construction Namdrok Tso to Gyantse?

Does anybody know about road construction between Namdrok Tso and Gyantse?
Some people suggest that this road cannot be taken (even with a landcruiser) because of
road construction, and that one should go back to the main highway instead.

That road is terrible but we travelled it in April just gone.

Hey there

Since April the roadworks have increased dramtically with the onset of spring. I have run a number of trips up there and the road has been totally closed. This means you have to head up the Yarlung Valley highway (Friendship hwy) and cut up towards Yamdrok Tso on a back road (Landcruisers only) you then meet the sourthern road from Yamdrok - Gyantse and have to head BACK towards Yamdrok to get up on the pass and get good views.

I am not booking trips to Yamdrok Tso for this reason. You may be able to get through on the road by leaving very early or paying the roadworkers a little "donation" This sometimes works!!? But offically it is currently closed.

Seems like we timed our trip well. We missed the shenanigans at Base Camp and now the road works. Though if you suffer from travel sickness as I do, it was purgatory but then so were the corners going up that last stretch to base camp.
