Hi,
I want to do the classic overland from zhongdian to lhasa by 4x4 wheel. Mr. Chen and Khmapacaravan, both mentioned by lonelyplanet, have sent me an offer (I have to say that the second one is a little bit cheaper, around 1000 rmb less)... but, apart from money, I would like to know how have been your past experiences with that tour companies.
Any suggestions would be welcomed.
Thanks a lot,
Barbara

The lads at Khampa Caravan have a pretty good reputation and work with lots of big international agencies so they should be reliable. They have just teamed up with an agent here in Lhasa so this means they have both ends of the trip covered and should be able to deal quickly and professionally with an issues that arise during your trip. Of course it really comes down to the drivers and guide that works on your trip!

I am making this trip in October with China Minority Travel, based in Dali.

From my experience, Khampa Caravan is the way to go. Though their prices tend to be a bit more than every one else, they make up for it in customer service. Keep in mind that you often get what you pay for. Khampa Caravan has a very good reputation, and from what I can tell, is very well run.
