Hi all,

There are more than 2000 tourists and their guides are trapped in Lukla, the entrance to Nepal side EBC trek due to bad condition. Some of them have been stuck in Lukla for more than 10days. Nepalese army helicopters were deployed to evacuate and rescue the tourists. However, the seats are extremely expensive and limits. I hope the rescue goes smooth and everyone get back home safely.

For those are planning EBC trek in Nepal, I suggest that you reconsider your plan. The Lukla airport may closed for whole winter.

Lukla airport is currently open and operating normally. It won't be closed for whole winter!

Flights are operating normally again and there is no need to reconsider current trekking plans for EBC - Nepal.

The best way is still to avoid Lukla and start trekking in Jiri. The scenary is amazing and the people are still real friendly 'cause there aren't that many tourists yet. It takes about 6-7 days to Namche. Just make sure you have good knees or good walking sticks...
