Myself and my girlfriend arrive in Lhasa tomorrow, 26th July, and would like to organise a quick tour of Shigatse and Everest Base Camp. I dont really know how quick this can be done but we are pushed for time and are hoping on 5 days max. We are looking for 1 or 2 persons to split the cost of the trip. We are also looking for info on the best place to book this journey in Lhasa.
Very short notice i know but i just didn't get round to posting until now,
thanks in advance,
FF.

If you plan to sleep anywhere near EBC then it sounds more like a one way trip. Three nights minimum in Lhasa before going higher.

You should not have any problems arranging the trip in a hurry. That is one of the most popular routes, and there are always people looking to share rides. Every guesthouse has a notice board, where people place notes looking for others to share various trips. I would recommend the FIT office in the Banak Shol. I have used them before and was very happy with the service. They usually get very good reviews from the folks who read this branch. You can do the trip in 5 days, so that should not be a problem. Each travel agency has set itineraries that cover this, or you can make your own if you want.

#1 is correct about acclimatization. If you have never been at higher altitudes before, you may find you have some problems getting used to it. Lhasa is around 3500m, but you will reach over 5000m going to EBC. Most people suggest 2 - 3 days in Lhasa, but altitude affects everyone differently, so it may be different for you.

We did Lhasa-- Gyatse-- Sakya-- EBC-- Shigatse-- Lhasa stopping a night in each place, except Lhasa of course when we first arrived. Also used FIT at Banok Shol.

Hi,
I think we are going to attempt this same itinerary (two moms and two six year olds) between August 15 and 20th. How much does it cost generally per person? Does anyone know if small kids pay less?
Thanks,
Brenda
PS We are traveling by train from Xining to Lhasa with a guide. Are we allowed to let our guide go in Lhasa and spend a day or two seeing sights on our own before hooking up with a tour?

Any tour from Lhasa to EBC is per vehicle, no matter how many you cram into it. 1 or 10, same price.
