We will be in Tibet October 11-20. We are planning to stay in Lhasa for a few days, and also do a Gyantse-Shigatse-EBC-Namtso trip. Our question is: is it necessary to book hotels ahead of time during this season? We have been contacting Tenzin from Tibet Nakqu International Travel, and he recommends booking in advance. However, we would prefer to have a look at the hotels first before we commit to staying, if that is possible. Also, we heard that often you can bargain at the hotel reception desks - is that true? If we book in advance, is it still possible to bargain?
Thanks!

The good hotels may still be booked out at this time. (Its still fairly busy) So booking in advance for your Lhasa time might be a good idea. (Just get Tenzin to do it for you as most hotels are shocking at taking bookings here!!.......+ he may have significantly more bargaining power than you!!
If you book in advance = no bargaining
If hotels are busy they won't allow bargaining anyways....its hit and miss.

There are some hostel accepting booking , but if you want the very good ones , they are always busy and they normally do not accept booking in advance ,sometimes even they agree, but when some other people come to there before you ,they will sell the room to other people, so you can try the youth hostel . i have been to two of them , both are ok.
