Hi I was planing to go to Tibet from Kathamandu but after having the high altitude sickness in the Annapurna trek at 4000 meter I'm quite scare to go there.
If any body had the same sickness and still went to Tibet can tell me if it safe to get there by jeep in 8 days?
Thanks

Hello: You are right to be concerned. People who have experienced a previous episode of severe AMS, or the more serious pulmonary edema/cerebral edema are at increased risk for recurrent episodes. If it was only severe AMS (headache, nausea, etc...), you may consider that this is par for the course and deal with the discomfort. However,if your previous experience involved HAPE or HACE, I would consider either 1) not making the trip, or at least 2) staging the trip (i.e., spend some time at intermediate altitude (1500-2000 m), and/or 3) acetazolamide.
Good luck

The ideal would be to 2000+ first , and make your first stop there . No real acclimatisation before that. The only possible option between Ktm and Lhasa would be Zhangmu , probably hard to arrange. Talk with a doc , do some high altitude trekking before (like Langtang , 8 hrs away from Ktm ) , and consider Diamox for the first 2-3 nights. Again , talk with your doc.

Here is the itinerary suggested by The Trekkers Society in Kathmandu.
Day 01: Kathmandu to Kodari. Cross boarder then drive to Nyalam (3750 m.)
Day 02: Nyalam - Tingri (4350 m.)
Day 03: Tingri - Everest Base Camp (4920 m.)
Day 04: Everest Base Camp to Shigatse (3900 m.)
Day 05: Shigatse - Gyantse - Lhsasa
