Hi folks
If you are cycling into Tibet or are intending to do some while you are in Lhasa, there is a new shop in the heart of town providing repair works and the sales of spare parts for major western bicycle brands. In addition, they organize cycling trips and it is a music bar.

The owner is a Chinese gentleman with a ponytail by the name of - Li, possibly the only one in Lhasa with good knowledge in western brands bikes. The shop is call - ¶þÂ¥µ¥³µÒôÀÖ°É£¬which translates into - 2nd storey bicycle and music bar. It is on - Zang Yi Yuan Lu (²ØҽԺ·), which is beside the Barkhor Street and Jokhang temple. I dont have the unit number, but its located on the 2nd floor of the block of shops opposite to the famous Snow Land Hotel, and its nearer to the Beijing Dong Lu (±±¾©¶«Â·)stretch.

Li¡¯s email is lishuiqing1978@yahoo.com.cn and mobile number: +8613648984661.

Do note that his spoken English is rather limited, so if you were to call him, ask a local to translate.

Alternatively, write to me at chui_wai_ling@yahoo.com.sg and I can be the translator, I was a customer and now a good of friend of Li¡¯s.

Thanks for this.

can you buy an ok mountain bike and front and back bike racks in Lhasa (or if racks are hard to get a bike with the right brazings to attach them to) ? If so what sort of prices ? & what brands likely to be available ?

I'm trying to work out if it might just be easier to arrive with my racks and bags and buy a bike.

yep....Li has been around in Lhasa for a few years now. For a while he was the only guy in town able to get good quality components. Now he is not the only one but he definately knows what he is doing and is passionate about off road riding.

hoogerbooger..........you should be able to find a Giant ATX 770 or similar with back rack only (shocks on the front) for around 2000rmb There is quite a few cycle tourers around and a lot of the mainland Chinese riders sell their bikes in Lhasa then fly home after their ride so you should be able to find something secondhand if you have the time to hunt around.
