Hi! I'm planning to travel throughout China from Hong Kong to Tibet and on th Katmandu. I have a two entries chinese visa. the problem is that it is valid only 30 days after each entrance, and the thing is by the time I arrive to Tibet it will most likely to have expired. is it still necessary while in tibet (since you need a different travel permit)?

Thank you

Tibet IS part of China so you have no choice but to hold a valid visa.
# Chinese Visa - you can apply for in Chinese Embassy in your country;
# Tibet Entry Permit - It is issued by Tibet Tourism Bureau and is a must for foreigners entering Tibet;
# Travel Permit: It is required when you are planning to travel to the closed areas in Tibet,which you can obtain it after you arrive in Tibet
# Military Permit - you have to obtain if you are planning to travel to some military sensitive areas.

Not sure I entirely understand your post, but as Westwood has stated, Tibet is part of China. You must have a valid Chinese visa in order to enter into the Tibet Autonomous Region. For more information on how to travel to Tibet, read the following:

If your 30 days will expire while you are in Tibet, then you'll need to extend your visa elsewhere in China before arriving in Tibet, since extensions aren't normally given in Tibet. Note that many PSB offices won't extend a visa until a few days before it's due to expire, and you probably won't be able to get your Tibet Travel Permit until your visa's been extended to cover your stay in Tibet. All of this may create some hassle for you.
