Hi,

I am coming into China in the next couple of days and hoping to head from Beijing towards Tibet once there. I am fairly new to the travel game and was hoping to get some advice on which city to head towards to get to Tibet.

Cheers

Mike

Chengdu and Xining are popular places to arrange trips to Tibet mainly because there are more travellers going from there and a higher chance of hooking up with others to make the trip to Tibet cheaper per person. As a solo traveller, if you went to Tibet on your own, you would have to cover the cost on your own.

The Traffic Hotel/Travellers Hostel in Chengdu (called Communications Hotel on Trip Advisor) organizes tours that leave from the front of their building. The huge all terrain bus loaded up on Wed or Thursday am when we were there 2 weeks ago. Chengdu is well organized as starting off point for Tibet with lots of provisioners nearby. Flights easy and cheap to get once you get to Beijing. Enjoy your trip!
