I have read through the recent posts in this thread and glad to see that the permit situation is relaxing towards group size and same nationalities.

However, to enter Tibet do you still need to be part of an organised tour? Or are you able to travel independently?

Thanks

You still need to be part of an organized tour and this is unlikely to change in the foreseeable future.

Hello, Tenzinintibet!

We are planing to go from Shigatsu to Old Tingri as part of our tour on August 28 just to see Mt.Everest and other 8000+ mountains from a far, do you saying this is not possible at the moment? How far we can go? Is it possible to see those mountains from somewhere at the moment or we need to adjust our itinerary?
Thanks!

You'll get plenty of views of Mt Everest as you drive along the Friendship Highway. we got some really good photos with it in the background.

We were in the Tingri/Friendship Highway area last week on our way back to Kathmandu from Kailash. Unfortunately everything was covered up in monsoon clouds and we could not see a thing. One has to be very lucky to get good views this time of the year.

Hi all,

any updates about E.B.C? I heard that it is still closed for foreigner. Why?
Which part of Tibet we could see the 8000+ mountain if E.B.C is closed?

@ Muchan : If you are going to Old Tingri then you can see the view of Everest but quite far. From Old Tingri you will see the view of Mount Cho ou yo very clear. ( fourth highest mountain) If you can drive from Old Tingri towards Nyalam Tongla pass then when you cross the pass then you will see more clear view of Everest and all the other ranges of higher mountians but if the Weather is not good its not a good idea to go.

@welly_ario : Everest is still not open so best place to see the Himalaya mountains including Everest,Cho ou you and ( Shishapangma(8012m) only mountain above 8000m fully planted in Tibet) will be between Old Tingri and Nyalam.
