I am going to Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau in December, I have about 10 days for Taiwan and 5 days for HK and Macau. Guidebooks give the impression this isn't the best month to visit, but those who have been are a bit more favourable. I am not looking for constant sunshine, but I wonder if the weather would stop me from doing things like hiking/trekking? Many thanks.

December is a good time of year for visiting HK and Macau. Weather is cool and (usually) dry. It is normally a wonderful time for hiking in HK's hills.

In Taiwan, December weather can be a bit more "iffy." It gets downright cold and rainy there sometimes......I visited northern Taiwan at Christmas a couple of years ago and got rained on while hiking. But it only rained one day out of three.....so it wasn't a constant thing.

December is one of the best months to visit Hong Kong- not sure about Taiwan.

hi

December is also fine to travel in Taiwan.
I think it is because of global warming , it is not too cold in Taiwan.
if you really want to do hiking , maybe you can go to southern Taiwan or central Taiwan.
southern Taiwan will be warmer than north.
averagely, Taiwan is kind of warm.

dont let weather stop you travelling in Taiwan. haha

Winter weather in Taiwan really depends on the year. This last winter was very mild, but the one before that was cold and wet. Bring layers, and a medium warm coat and you should be just fine. They further south you go, the better the weather gets. Taichung is known for the most sun year round, and Taipei is most often cloudy and cooler. It's beautiful any time of year!
