I was in Taiwan 3 years ago staying in Taipei. The closest city to watch baseball during that trip was in Taichung. So when I arrived in Taichung by train, the game was cancelled due to rain.

Next weekend, I am back in Taipei and the closest game will be in Tainan. I am itching to go again but was wondering, do Saturday games sell out? The team I am watching has Manny Ramirez so was also wondering if he has a huge fan base there which would make the game sold out. Are there places to buy tickets besides at the stadium? Here in Japan, you can buy tickets at the convenience store prior to the game.

This isn't going to help you very much but the last time I was in Taiwan I stayed at a hotel (In Hsinchu, if I recall correctly) that was right next door to and overlooking a baseball stadium. I saw parts of many games being played but it was always far more interesting to play "Spot the Spectator" as this huge ballpark would often seem to have more people involved in the playing of the game than there appeared to be watching it.

If you're talking about the weekend of May 4-5, the closest game to Taipei might actually be the Sunday one between the President Lions and Lamigo Monkeys in Douliu. However, there is a lot more to see and do in Tainan, so the Saturday game would probably make for the more interesting trip.

However, you mentioned wanting to see Manny Ramirez. The team Ramirez is with, the EDA Rhinos, are playing the Brother Elephants at the Chengching Lake Stadium in Kaohsiung on the 4th and 5th (both games starting at 5:05 p.m.), so I would think you would want to go to Kaohsiung rather than Tainan next weekend.

I know the presence of Ramirez has created a buzz in Taiwan, but in general CPBL games are rarely sold out (the numerous game-fixing/gambling scandals over the years have seriously affected attendance), and you should be able to buy a ticket at the stadium on the day of the game. My Taiwan-born wife has assured me, however, that you can also buy tickets online and at convenience stores, just as in Japan. The owners of the President Lions, the Uni-President Corporation, also operates 7-Eleven in Taiwan, so you can probably buy Lions tickets from any of their branches (and 7-Elevens, as you no doubt know, are everywhere in Taiwan!).

Thank you Kaminoge for the great info. I will go to Kaohsiung tomorrow if the weather is right. I don't want to risk there to be a rain out and I end up going there for nothing.
