Just wondering if anyone has advice on travelling to Taipei during Chinese New Years?

Will it be hard to get around? Will things be open? Accommodation prices inflated?

Am only looking to stop off in Taipei for a few days enroute to LA between 21-25 February.

Appreciate your help everyone!

  1. It will be easy to get around in Taipei, unless if you want to travel to Southern Taiwan then I advise you to reserve your ticket in advance.
  2. Shops will be open during Chinese New Year ie department stores, restaurants
  3. I think accommodation price will be cheaper since most of the people will travel to central/south Taiwan during this period.

Some hotels (even in Taipei) will have a surcharge during this time. While most things are open, you will find some places closed for several days during this time. If there is something special you want to see/do then check in advance whether it will be open.

Also bring some warm clothes as Chinese New Year tends to be the coldest time of the year.
