I am looking at travel to taiwan and looking at doing some hiking in the mountain wondering if anyone has any info or helpful pointers. Thanks

These sites can give you some helpful advise on where to go and make a plan.
There is also a hiking and cycling guide available at the Taipei MRT stations for Free. Shows Many great trails around Taipei City.

#1 mentioned the Taipei Metro's hiking guide. It is actually very hard to find, but a friend converted it to a pdf file. The link is below.

Definitely get the Rough Guide (rather than LP) if you really like hiking!
It has much more info on routes and regulations, and is particularly good for sound advice on where and how to obtain the permits required to climb higher mountains like Yushan or Syueshan (Snow Mtn).
