I post this on another topic. I think it is possible to do it the other way around if you have the correct visa for China. Hope it makes think a little bite clearer.

Last friday I did the Xiamen-Kinmen trip by ferry. I'm holder of een dutch passport, I had a one entree visa in China and after telling them that I would not return to China everthing was fine. On Kinmen you have to give a staying adress, but I tolled them that I would be travelling to Taipei and it was not a problem. I'm allowed to stay for 30 days in Taiwan.

Hello,
I'm sorry that I did not reply faster. It takes about a hour and 180RMB. The ferry's go by the hour. I took a plain to taipei from Kinmen.

confirming that foreigners can do the ferry to Jinmen/Kinmen. I did it six months ago. I think we can fly to. Closed to Mainland Chinese as I understand, though.
