Hi,

The combination of the Caoling Historic Trail and the Taoyuan Valley Trail comes so highly recommended in the LP, that we definitely want to do that hike.
It is 16km long and takes 5 to 8 hours, according to the LP (for us that means at least 8 hours!)

We want to do the hike from Daxi to Fulong. We want to stay close to the trailhead the night before the walk, so that we can start hiking early to be in Fulong before dark.

Unfortunately everything in the LP is described with a start-off in Taipei. If we have to leave Taipei by train in the morning, we might be in Daxi around 9 am (?? depending on the train schedule from Taipei??) and I'm afraid we won't make it to fulong before dark, since it gets dark around 17.15 in November.

Any recommendations regarding (affordable) accomodation around Daxi or regarding the hike itself?

Thanks a lot!

I think LP mentions Tiangong Temple in Dali (a stop or two away from Daxi) as being a potential place to stay- look in the section on temple stays. Jiaoxi may also have more options than Daxi. Fulong may also have something- you can try calling the Taiwan Tourism Information office; they can help you find and reserve a room.

Fulong has hotels...well...guesthouses. Never stayed in one but saw a few when we rolled through there last year.

Thanks for the info, we'll search a little further into Fulong. Cheers
