hey guys, im plannig to buy a camera. im just wondering if its better to buy in singapore or taiwan... looking for canon 500d....thanks

You are sure to be disappointed in the price in both places, but in Taiwan it should be slightly cheaper than in Singapore. Foreigners often have unrealistic expectations like "I want electronic equipment X which costs 700 US dollars in my country. I bet I can buy it in _______ for 400 US dollars." That never happens. Prices are pretty much the same all over the world for electronics these days.
Try your local craigslist. I get a one or two year old canon pretty cheap every other year or so, or when my daughter decides to take it with her for bath time.....
I agree with jman98 above. The price differences aren't likely to be that significant. It is best to buy the camera in the location most convenient to you and where you can be sure of getting after sales service. The warranty may only be valid in the country where you bought the camera. It is pretty useless trying to save a few dollars and then find you have to pay much more to get the camera repaired because the warranty is not valid internationally.
I also don't recommend buying electronics while traveling as the models are often different, the manuals usually aren't in English, the warranties might not cover you at home.
In addition, there is a learning curve to using a new camera so that you might lose some really good shots for not being familiar with the camera and its capabilities.
But more importantly after spending all this money to get someplace, are you really wanting to spend your holiday inside camera shops comparing prices and making deals just to save a few pennies?
