My wife and I are trying to fly back to the States from Bali on April 5. China Airlines flights connecting in Taipei. Only two hour layover but no guarantees these days. Just in case... Is there a transit hotel available where we could stay for up to 24 hours, just in case? And, if worse comes to worst, could we enter Taiwan without being quarantined? All thoughts appreciated.

Hi,
I've lived in Taiwan and still have family and friends there but they're not traveling around the country. They are worried about the Wuhan flu and schools have been closed for another 2 weeks but no one has identified any other changes to life in Taiwan besides a 2-week quarantine if you are arriving from China, even if you were only transiting.
Are there any travelers there now on the ground in Taiwan who have been inconvenienced by the virus? Are things open and running?
I'm more concerned…

Hello, I have 2 days for trekking outside of Taipei and interested in Shei-Pa or Taroko national parks. How are these parks accessible using public transportation (or perhaps flights )from Taipei? What trails are good for 1-2 days hiking? I am considering asking for a permit. Ans is visiting Yushan park is a practical option? Thanks ahead, Mark

I´ll be travelling Taiwan by public transport. As I understand it, it´s quite difficult to see the beautiful pacific coast without a car. Are there ways to experience the scenic parts of highways 9 or 11 by public transport?
Is it true that there are no busses between Suao and Hualien?

I´m thinking about taking the train through the East Riff valley.
Would a bus trip from Hualien to Chenggong or Taitung worthwhile?

Thanks for your advice!

Hello,

Will be spending 1 week in Taipei (family of 5 with 3 kids/young adults). Would love to hear thoughts on where to spend an additional 7-10 days after Taipei. I've always wanted to go to Phuket but can't find any direct flights so need to decide if 6 hour connecting flight is worth it. Japan would be great too but so hot in August with Olympics happening will be more crowded and expensive? We ideally want one place to was call home for 7-10 days and Phuket has so many amazing resorts…
