Hi there,

I'm interested in backpacking around Asia for a few months by myself, starting of in Seoul around December time and heading to Thailand and Cambodia.
Just wondering if any of you have advices for a first time lonely traveler? Plus any interesting parts of Seoul that I can look into.
I assume it can get really lonely.

thanks

Our plan is to travel from Seoul to Busan for one night, then on to Japan on the "Beetle" hydrofoil in early November. Looking for info on the trip from Seoul. Are reservations needed for train travel on Saturday?

Also, any recommendations for a convenient, sub-$100 per night place to stay are welcome. We are a couple so a double, non-smoking room is good. "Convenient" means easy access to train station and hydrofoil/ferry to Japan as well as sights/food in Busan.

Any tips on the…

Is it easy to change Australian $$ banknotes outside of Seoul?

Do you need to pre-book accommodation, budget hotel/ hostel level, for travel in May? What about weekends?

Do you need to book accommodation on Ulleungdo or do old ladies meet the boats offering rooms?

Is English as widely spoken in towns as in Chinese or Thai towns?

I will have a day in Seoul in October as a stopover. I'm planning on taking the express train/subway from Incheon airport to Seoul to see the palaces before returning to make my other flights.

Somebody mentioned to me that much of Seoul accepts credit cards and therefore I won't have much need for cash in wons. Are any of the following payable by credit card?

  • Express train from Incheon
  • municipal subway I would have to transfer on to get to palace stops
  • palace admission fee

I'm looking for tips of a nice hotel in/near Insadong. I'm hoping for walking distance to a good subway station and walking distance to things in Insadong. I'd like it to also have easy access to get from Insadong to Hongdae. I'm looking for something in the mid-range i guess. Max budget $100 a night, though lower would be preferred. Clean, ensuite bathrooms, wi-fi internet are all needed amenities. I didn't see anything in Insadong show up in the list of LP recommended places to stay in Seoul…

hi! I am planning 2 nights stay at jeju, with the first day arriving at 11am while leaving jeju on the mid noon flight on third day. I am deciding between staying either near the airport/jeju city area or the seogwipo-si area.

As I do not drive, I would like to either join the bus tour or engage a taxi driver guide. From the time that I likely reach Jeju, I am not able to join the bus tour on day one and I understand that transportation on the island would be easier with a taxi. Can anyone…

Hi!

I am planning to travel to Jeju when I arrive in Seoul (Incheon). My flight is expected to arrive at Incheon @ 0520hrs and I am looking to book a flight to Jeju (Gimpo). I am deciding whether to book the 0820am or 0945am flight. I am not sure if 3 hours is adequate for me to catch the flight at 0820am.

I do not speak/understand/read Korean. Is it difficult to navigate around Incheon airport for AREX?

Appreciate your advice. Many thanks.

Greetings from England,

I am going to be in Busan for 6 weeks next summer, then take a bus to Seoul for a bit. How easy is it to go to Pyongyang or anywhere in North Korea? I wouldn't mind giving it a try if feasible. How do prices getting there stack up?

Thanks,

Paul.

We have a potential opportunity to spend a semester (summer, fall or spring) at Yonsei University (my husband is a professor and would be teaching there). We have 2 young - under 5 years old - kids. I wouldn't work during our time in Korea so I'd be with the kids.

My questions: which is the best time of year to be there - spring, summer, or fall semester? I don't like hot weather, so I assume not summer unless there are reasons that it's good to be in Seoul in the summer.

Is this a good…
