October is a very good month for weather (warm, mostly dry and sunny).

Where you go will of course depend on your interests, but many visitors find themselves spending a few days in Seoul, with perhaps a side trip to Gyeongju or Busan. The country is relatively compact and it's fairly easy (and cheap) to travel around by bus or train.

hi, i'm south korean but currently living in shanhai, china.
seoul is not too big to spend 5 days.-_-;;. you better go to busan or gyengju.
...
or if you love to see the so natural sight, how about you go to Jili-san(mountain)
there is a long, quite and beautiful road to tracking that called "dulae-gil(road)"
. I'd walked there two times, it was really peaceful place.

Politics and History: then the combined DMZ and JSA trip to the N. Korean border.

In Seoul there are plenty of old temples and palaces all worth a visit.
