I have a 14-hour layover in Seoul (en route to Cambodia), and would like to spend some time in the city, rather than sitting in the airport. The info that I've found in guidebooks on getting into the city from the airport is rather vague. So, I have a couple of questions: What's the quickest and easiest way to the city from the airport? (barring taxis, since I can't afford them) If I take a bus to the city center, where exactly does it let me off, and how long does it take? Is it easy to catch a bus back to the airport?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi normad,

Seoul has a very good subway system that goes to satelites cities as well so you can virtually go to anywhere by subway. Frequently run and very fast. You wont use a bus due to heavy congestion.

14 hours....
To be honest, you can not see much with the timeframe. but

I suggest you should go to Nam-dae-moon Market that gives you a brief/segmented not complete picture of life in Seoul. Try some Korean food-Bibimbab (rice with veges and egg etc- you will like it) or Bulgogi, Jabche etc. and Myoung Dong near the market. it will be very very crowded though.

and/or you could go to palaces in Seoul - there are around 5 palaces in downtown....research on that... In this way, you can appreciate the old Seoul in the admist of a fastspeed modern city life. and behind the Kyoungbokgung(Kyoungbok palace) lies Blue House where Korean president resides.

i hope that helps.

thanks

Hey there,

Assuming that you are flying to Incheon airport (if you are flying in from overseas then you most probably are) you would be best off taking a bus. The airport busses are extremely convinient and they take you anywhere in Seoul. There are quite a few busses that you can take, so I'd need to know what do you want to do in order to give you proper directions.

If you want to just stroll around the city center I'd recommend taking the bus 601 to City Hall or Jongno. From there it's an easy and short walk to Insadong, which is the touristy area of Seoul. And when we're talking about touristy, well, Cambodia is more touristy then Seoul.

Depending on the time you arrive you should allow yourself at least an hour and a half to get to the city. The busses leave the airport every 15 minutes. I found the bus trip actually quite scenic (I know it's hard to believe but in terms of rides to the airport Seoul-Incheon is actually really nice!)

You can buy the bus ticket on your right when you come out of the terminal. It's all very well signposted.

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to pm me.

Have a good time in Cambodia!

Take exit 5, platform 5b for the express bus into Seoul. Takes around 1-2 hours. Cost is around 9-14k won. You could see Namsan, Insadong, & Gyeongbukgung, then head back to Incheon Airport.

Most busses drive by Seoul Station, where you can get tourist info, & use the subway to get around (Jongak / Angak for Insadong). Taxis are really cheap, for the short distance from Seoul Stn to Namsan cablecar.

As above, there are loads of different buses going to various parts of Seoul. Probably the best place to head to in terms of being central to stuff you might want to see, is Jongno. Just ask at the Airport Limousine ticket desk for a ticket to Jongno-ee-ga, or Jongno-sam-ga. There's only about 200 yards difference between those stops anyway. There are announcements in English warning you what the next stop is. When you want to get the bus back, just go to the other side of the road from where you got dropped off. The airport bus stop has a picture of a plane on it.

"I stroll round to see if there is anything to be seen, but the scenery is much like that you would enjoy if you were inside a blancmange."
