Hi and thanks in advance...

I'm currently living in Seoul and going to Jeju Island in mid August, but I have a few questions.

1) I want to rent a car in Jeju; however, I do not have an international drivers license nor a Korean drivers license. I've heard it's possible to get a Korean drivers license quickly and cheaply if you have a drivers license in another country. Has anyone heard this or received a Korean license before?

2) In case question 1 is out of the question, I've also heard (both from a Puerta Rican woman here in Seoul and on the internet) that if you just show up in Jeju and ask to rent a car, many rental agencies will just rent you a car without asking for an international license. Does anyone have the name (and telephone number) of an agency that might do this?

3) Lastly, in case I do not rent a car, I'm looking for reasonably priced accommodations (i.e. a Guest House or Minbak) near a nice beach and has walk-able restaurants. Because it's peak season in Jeju, I want to reserve a place in advance. The two areas I am looking at are either in Hyeopjae in the west or Jungmun Beach in the south. Any suggestions on which has the nicer beaches? As of now, I'm about to commit to a place in Jungmun Beach called "Gold Beach Pension House" that's 80,000 Wons a night. This seems a bit pricey but it is peak season (and peak week). Does anyone know of other possible accommodations that would fit under the "walk-able" guidle lines? Or, has anyone stayed at "Gold Beach Pension" before? Is it near the beach/ food? Is it nice?

Again thanks so much,

RP

I just got back from 5 days on jeju, we stayed at a great guesthouse in jeju-si called yeha.

www.yehaguesthouse.com/

It's in the main city part- 5 mins from the airport. and maybe 10-15 mins walk from plenty of restaurants.

The buses are quite good. They're cheap and cover most of the island.

Hyeopjae is a really nice beach. It's worth it to go to Hallim park- gives you a taste of what jeju is. The bus fare from Hyeopjae to the downtown area is only 2000 won one way....
