Hello,

I'm considering a short trip in South Korea for april or may 2012.

I would like to know if the conditions are good for hiking at this time of the year. Is there still snow ? Is it muddy, etc.

Thanks

F.

April is a good month, the winter has mostly worn off, so it'll be warm but not too hot.

April is perfect. You shouldn't run into any snow, and the rainy season isn't until summer.

Mid April is also Cherry Blossum time, in Korea, at least around Seoul. Yeoido in south Seoul is a good place to see cherry blossum. First week of April in the south. Jinhae is highly recommended. The army base just before the cbd is much better than the more famous hill everyone goes up, to see avenues of cherry blossum trees. You don't need permission to enter & the guards will not give any 'halt who goes there' responses. Last year it was cold right up until the end of April in Seoul & still snowing mid April, but this year it was a lot better. 15 April the cherry blossum was out in Ilsan. The hillsides around Jirisan are covered in pink & purple azaleas too in May. Late June / early July is when the rain starts in earnest. (400mm + (over 16 inches) in July)
