A friend of mine and I have recently accepted positions teaching at a YES Yougndo campus in Anyang South Korea. We know it is roughly 20kil outside of Seoul, and was wonering if anyone could help us know a little more about the area. We had requested to be placed in Seoul, and was told we were, but have come to find out Anyang is just outside.

We are a bit dissapointed as we liked the idea of living directly in Seoul, and we both like city living. Any info on what there is to do in or around Anyang, if it is very easy to get into Seoul, how long it takes to get to the heart of Seoul, or any nice places to go in Anyang......anything would be appreciated.

THANK YOU!

Anyang is on the Seoul metro, so it's easy (if not quick) to get into the city centre. Depending on where you live, it should take around 40-60 minutes to get downtown.

I don't live in Anyang so can't really advise you on it, but I know quite a few people who live there so there will be things going on. The ESL cafe / ExpatKorea forums should be able to give you better information.

YES has lots of schools, so you might be able to transfer after 3 months (you have to wait 3 months according to Immigration, i believe)

not much there, but its ok

Seoul is much more 'fun' but more $$$ so take the opportunity to get familiar with life there

I started in Suwon, then transferred to Bucheon (15 minutes by subway to Seoul) which was cheaper and still close enough

Beware the subway stops about 11:15 to 11:30pm but buses (restricted routes) run at all hours

Hi, I'm living in Anyang.

Well, first, Anyang is one of the biggest city in S.Korea. (Don't be disappointed;;)

And the place YES class located is the strip of academies(PyungChon HakWonGa; 평촌학원가)(lots of English, Mathematics, Korean....).

Anyang has two Wards(Man ahn gu만안구, Dong ahn gu동안구) and most of Dong ahn gu was develped as New Town named 'PyeongChon;평촌' to solve the problem of overpopulation of Seoul.

Because most of people who live in this city have their jobs in Seoul, it has good transportations to Seoul or other neighbor cities such as Bundang(분당), Sanbon(산본), Bucheon(부천)etc.

If you go to center of Seoul(like Jong-lo), it is the best way to take a subway.(from Beomgye station to Seoul station, it takes just 34 minutes!) The nearest subway station is Beomgye (범계)or Pyeongchon(평촌). These stations are on the line 4 Seoul Metro, and you can walk to these stations from your workplace.(it takes 10 minutes)

The department store, arcades, the Airport limousine bus terminal and bus stations are on there.

If you have to reach here directly in Incheon Int'l Airport, you can take non stop limousine bus towrad here.

You can see a lots of apartments when you walk from Beomgye station to Hakwonga. I can see foreigen teachers like you every day.

If you hard to find way to YES class, just catch the person who wear school uniforms.(well, all middle school and high school students in Anyang know Pyeongchon Hakwonga. so just ask them "Where is Pyeongcheon hakwonga?") Most of Korean students can speak English a little bit.

You can go Pyeongcheon Central Park(평촌중앙공원 Pyeongchon Jongang Gongwon) and do jogging every mornig or take beautiful pictures of the light of fountains with hot Starbucks Coffee(It's in the skyscrapper called 'Acrotower(아크로타워)' which lightened brightly).

Again, don't be disappointed, and I wish you have great time in Korea. :)

Welcome and Good luck to you!

Thank you.

Hello!!

I will go to South Korea in few month with two friends. We are looking for a rent house to stay during the next semester but we don't Find anything . We would like to stay in Anyang during our trip because it's more close to Seoul than Suwon where is my university but for one of my friends, her university is in Seoul. So maybe there are someone who can give me some informations or advices to find a apartment or house in Anyang.
