Hi all- I want to go on a one-day/overnight trip to the coast from Seoul. I've heard the East Coast is nicer, but have no idea about good destinations. Any ideas?
Thanks!

Most Korean holidaymakers go to Ganeung, which is pretty much due east from Seoul. It's OK - a big, wide, sandy beach and relatively clean water.
I'd 2nd Doc as far as Gangneung (Kangnung) being good for beaches . . . Gyeongpo is the more social/touristy beach (esp. uni. students at night), popular for sunrise views. I prefer Anmok for it's quieter side. Be sure to bring warm clothes for the nightime ocean winds this time of year.
Sokcho is the "doorway" to the beautiful Seoraksan National Park, moutain views/hiking, etc. The park will likely be busy this time of year.
You can find more info on the net.
Both cities are 3-3.5 hours by bus from Gangnam terminal. (Note that Gangneung's 2 terminals are joined while Sokcho's are miles apart. The daytime trip to Sokcho is more scenic, but the bus' descent out of the mountains into Gangneung is great if you catch it at the right 5 minutes or so).
I can give you more details by pm.
