We were in Kuching, Borneo in July for the Rainforest World Music Festival (4th time) and saw a group from Korea called Noreummachi. Amongst their range of instruments was a small gong, we found out it was called a Kkwaenggwari.
We were very impressed and that has started a train of thought, or goal if you like to possibly visit South Korea.
Our grandson, aged 15 plays drums and asked us to bring him back a gong, this triggered off a lengthy look in the shops in Kuching and SW China where we went to in August, all without success, in desperation as a present we finally brought home a meditation plate from Tibet in Kuala Lumpur!!
Very very nice but not a gong!
Where can we buy such a gong if we were to go to Korea?

Thanking you. Mama

I don't know the answer to your question, but, as no one else seems to either, try these addresses/sites:

english@visitkorea.or.kr (response address for the Korea tourism bureau)

http://www.korea4expats.com/forum-south-korea/ (korea4expats forum)

seoul@seoulsearching.com (another expat site)

http://koreabridge.net/faq (place an ad here)

Hope one of these might help:)

Go to Insa-dong in Seoul.

You can find the shops easily.
