Hostel.com only listed 2 options for Gyeongju and they are both pricey. Im looking for a private room with bath around $25 to $30 a day. If there is no choice then maybe Busan.

I stayed in a Hotel in Busan last weekend for $20 (20,000 won). It was mentioned in the 2004 Korea Lonely Planet.

Hwangeum Hotel (황금 여관) take the subway line 1 to Jungang-dong station, take exit 17, first left. It's on the right at the bottom of the stairs. The guy there speaks English. Rooms are very basic. Has a bathroom, tv and a pedestal fan. The hot water is only about 2 degrees warmer than the cold water tap. Still, its bloody hot there now so I didn't mind.

You can usually find a 'love' motel for 30 000 won a night.
They're nothing fancy but they have a fan, sometimes AC, your own bathroom, double beds and are usually fairly decent. Generally just show up, some have the price of the room on paper near the counter and you just hand the cash over. Depending on the area and the motel some will give discount if you ask for it. I'm in Seomyeon and there are a heap of motels in the area.

I stayed two nights for new years eve at Seoul Motel in Busan. Take exit number 17 at Jungang-Dong subway station. The motel is located in a quiet street filled with cofee shops. The room with ensuite was clean and close to the ferry to Japan and busan tower. The cost was 40,000 Won per night and could accomodate 4 people. The weather was freezing cold, but the ondol floor kept us warm. The fridge in the room kept the beers cold.
