Hello,

My girlfriend is finishing graduate school and I'm quitting my job and we are planning a trip from roughly June 1 - July 21, 2010. Although not firm yet, the idea of horse trekking through Mongolia makes the country high on our list of places to go. We've both traveled extensively in the past and are eager for an active, outdoorsy trip in a seasonally-appropriate place. I understand that Mongolia will be particularly pleasant in terms of weather this time of year and has a lot of things…

Hi,
I am going to be heading from Ulaanbaatar to Beijing at the end of August. Does anyone know how often the trains run (I have heard its Thursday and Sunday during winter) and how I find info out about this? I am going to book the ticket in UB - I dont want to use a travel agent, I cannot afford it. Also the cost of buying in person in UB (bought by a Mongolian - so Mongolian prices not tourist prices)
Thanks very much

Hi there,

I wish to buy some horses in Moron (or Ulan Bator). It will be easy? How much will I pay for a good horse?

If I buy a horse in Moron, will I have any problem to sell it in Ulan Bator after a couple of months?

Thanks a lot.

Andy

Heading to Mongolia, we will not be staying in tourist ger camps, but with real nomad families. I've read that some have electricity, can someone confitm that? I'm wondering if I will be able to charge my camera battery. Guessing the plug type is the same as in Russia? Thank you!

Has anyone been to M in April? I know it can be cold. Are the Ger's cold at night? What do you recommend for sleeping in? Riding horses in? Any other key information you can share for a first timer in Mongolia? Thanks! Much appreicated.

Hi,
I am looking for the cheapest way to travel from the central USA to Mongolia. I would consider flying in to Ulan Bator or taking an overland route as my entire trip will span a few months. Any advice on the best cities to initially fly into in that area would also be welcomed.
Thanks!

Just a quick one. I'm planning to travel overland from Armenia to join the Trans-Mongolian railway. This will involve taking a boat from Georgia to Sochi (unpredictable timetable unfortunately) and subsequently joining the train route from there. Will this be pretty easy to do on-the-fly? I need to get to Ulaan Ude ASAP for the Mongolian visa (and a shower) before moving on to Mongolia itself.

Another question: What kind of luggage restrictions are there on the Russian long-distance trains? Are…

Hi
I'm planning to travel to Mongolia, possible with Aeroflot. The (very) rough plan is to fly London>Moscow>UB and then the same in reverse about a month later. So, the thing I can't understand is what visas I'd need, particularly for Moscow, where I'll only be in the airport.

If anyone could help me out I'd be soooo grateful.
Thanks :-)

Hi all:
Please let me know if this tentative itinerary sounds reasonable for a 3 week trip.
day 1: UB
2: Amarbayasgalan Monastery
3-5: Lake Khovsgol (5days)
6 -11: Ulaangom/Uureg nur/Kharkhiraa valley

12-14: Uliastai/Otgon
15-16: Great White Lake
17: Erdeen Zuu or Tovkhon Khiid
18-19: Khustain - UB
I want to have some time for hiking and short horse treks instead of spending all the time in the jeep, so if this plan looks too ambitious I'll start making changes.
My other option is to skip the west…

greeting everybody; planing to visit Mongolia for the first time.
my main interest is to meet the shamans of Mongolia.
mostly, the north: Darkhad - Khovsgol lake area.
thinking to fly from UB to Moron, and start from there.
horse riding and meeting with the raindeer people (who live in tipy style tents).
Time: about 2 weeks, sometime around August (2010)
1. any advise / recommendations? anyone know a good guide / tour company, that can handle
that kind of trip? anyone did something similar ?
