July 2012 I'd like to visit a Naddam Festival, but not in UB. (My partner and I are not crowd/people.) Has anyone got a reccomendation for a festival in a rural area, or small city, that they've visited?

I'm especially curious about the Naddam Festival in Tavan Bogd National Park. Any experiences there?

All tips are happily awaited!

Hello,

In our effort to stay longer than 60 days in Mongolia, we try to find a solution other then requesting a 90-days visa at the governement (and pay a lot of $ to an agency in UB - without garantuee of succes).

So could this plan work?
1. Booking airplane tickets for arrival in UB at day 1 and departure from UB at day 90

1. Arrival in UB at day 1, registering our 30-days-tourist visa we got in Belgium and extending it right away to 60 days
2. Traveltime in West-Mongolia, return to UB at day…

I notice that there have been a lot of posts on this forum from EU and Australian nationals asking questions regarding obtaining a Mongolian visa. As a U.S. citizen, I do not need a visa to enter Mongolia. Just as a matter of curiosity, do EU and Australian nationals require a visa to enter Mongolia? What about Canadians?

I try to figure out how we could spend two months in Mongolia without flying directly to UB (quite expensive). One of the options to enter the country is to buy a ticket to Beijing and catch up the train to Erlian and continue further on to UB (to get our visa extension there and start our cycling trip). We will probably leave Mongolia via the Bulgan border crossing and fly back to Belgium from Urumqi.

There has been a lot of writing about travelling between BJ and Erlian/Zamud/UB, especially…

Hello out there,
Does anyone have any advice on long-term visas for Mongolia? I'm in a bit of a tricky situation and I'm unsure of the best path forward. I write a weekly travel column for a small newspaper, and Mongolia is my next destination. I am hoping to stay in the country for four to six months; doing a crash course in Khalkh Mongol in Ulaanbaatar and then travelling north to Khövsgöl Nuur and then onto Tsagaannuur (wait up, the route is beside the point). The heart of the matter is…

Hello,

We'd like to bike 80 days in Mongolia from end of may till mid august. West Mongolia is definitely on our schedule - we probably will start there and cycle from there on to the east or southeast. Since applying for a 90 days tourist visa isn't that easy, we were thinking of going for the 'easy' 60 days tourist visa (extension included) and spend the other 20 days on travelling in China.

After reading about the opening of the Bulgan Border in the West, I was thinking about flying to…

I plan to visit Mongolia in the summer of 2013. Although this trip is still more than one year in the future, I would like to go ahead and collect some preliminary information for planning purposes:

  1. First of all, when is the Nadaam Festival held each year? I understand that ULN comes to a standstill during the festival.

  2. I would like to spend some time in ULN and then I definitely want to do one of the famous Ger tours. Other than than ULN and the Ger tour, can anyone…

Hello everyone
our question may seem a lot like other questions i've seen on this forum, but i still need to get things straight. With my friend, we are planning to visit a few countries for the next six months or so. We are going to start off with the Transsiberian from Moscow to Irkoutsk. Then we'd like to go to Mongolia. First Uulanbator then walk or ride to the west and south (and taking buses too). From there we'd like ton cross China and go to Tibet and Nepal. And so here's my question…

We (2 people) want to do a horse treck in
Mongolia, most proable in July (after Naadam). It should be quite long (14 days min.) and - at least partialy- go beyond the obvious Tourist Destination Terelj NP.
The most realistic options so far are either to visit first Terelj Np an then go to the south of UB, or to head south immediately. Both options would be with the operator "stepperiders". There is no minimum number of pax. and no steep price gradient but to have 1 to 3 more people would be more…
