Hi there, I have a regular ATM card that does not have the VISA logo. It has the Star, Interlink logos on the back, but I'm getting nervous that I won't be able to withdraw money in UB. Does anyone have any suggestions? Should I withdraw a good amount in Korea on my way and then convert it at the airport? I really appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks!

Hi, I intend to do the Trans Mongolian Rail from Beijing to Moscow in August and wondered if there is a stop somewhere in / near the Gobi desert? I think I'd need to get a local train...? Can anyone advise?

Unfortunately it's going to be a fairly express trip so I was intending to do about 4 days in the Gobi area and a few around Ulan Bataar, then on to Irkutsk then Moscow. Hopefully that's enough time to see something... or am I being unrealistic?

We spent so much time planning our Russian trip (which has helped greatly, especially the russian we learnt) we neglected to plan much for Mongolia. We get there in 4 days and only have the next few hours with the internet. We have booked 5 days in UB for planning purposes then will have the remaining 25 days of our visa to play with.

As we have left our planning so late would you recommend taking a tour to get the most out of the time? Out budget if around $4000 for our time in Mongolia. We…

Hi

I'm currently looking into hiring a driver for a trip from UB into the Mongolian countryside end of August and was wondering what are the pro's of having a guide? The obvious con is having to pay extra. But do you really need a guide even if the driver can only speak a little english?

Also if the driver is already able to speak good English, why would I need a guide?

Finally if anyone has any decent contacts for drivers in UB to do a 3 day tour on to the steppe in August, please reply.

i plan to travel to Mongolia on trans-siberian train with a couple of friends. We are all couchsurfers i.e. we don't intend to stay in hotels or guest houses but in private homes, does anyone know if a private person can send a valid Letter of Invitation?

Hello!

Am deciding between a homestay in the Lun Village and Terelj National Park - which would be a recommended place to be for an 'authentic' experience during the Tsagaan Sar Festival and more interesting in terms of scenery? Alternatively, which would be a nice village to visit for this festival (and tour companies that would have contact with these villages)?

Thanks much!

Sorry if this is a re-post, but it seems my other post went to just the north Asia section. Anyway, is three weeks enough to see the gobi desert and go on a khovsgol horse trek if we go only by land? Thanks in advance for any help. :)

Hi,

We are traveling to Mongolia during May-Jun for 12-14 days covering the Khentii and Khovsgul and I am trying to finalize a tour. After emailing several tour operators have narrowed it down to two looking at the quality of responses. The two are

Wandering Tribes of Mongolia - WTM
Steppe Nomad Tour & Travel.

Does anyone have any feedback on either company ?

The price quoted ranges from USD 2000 to 2500 per person depending on a few options. Is that too high or about right (includes domestic…
