Has anyone with their own vehicle or on a motorbike travelled the route from Takeshiken to Ulan Baatar, the route known as the southern route. We will be travelling it in a range rover and with a group of motobikes. What we really need to know is the condition of this road, what sort of mileage could we expect to be able to comfortably travel, and is there any soft sand on this road, is it badly corrugated? I am asking this because we have limited time but don't want to rush it more than we…
I am in the very early stages of planning a trip in June to Russia (Ulan Ude), Mongolia and China and I had some questions regarding transportation within Mongolia:
- I know that many travelers to Mongolia rent a car/driver, but the hostel I am planning to stay at in UB (Zaya Hostel) sent me a schedule of long distance buses. Hence, I am thinking of taking a bus from UB to Karakorum. A couple of questions:
A. In terms of long distance buses within Mongolia, is it possible to purchase…
Hi all!
We are 2 people coming to Ulanbataar next Saturday by plane and we wonder how taxi service from the airport to the center works. We would like to know
- how much is honest price one way,
- if the local drivers tend to cheat or the prices are fixed,
- any specific taxi company/driver to be recommended?
We are searching also for a hotel in the center of Ulanbaatar for one or two nights, middle category. Any good tips are more than appreciated.
Thanks and have a lovely journeys all!

Hello
Does anybody know if the border from China to Mongolia Sehee/ Shivee Huren is open to anyone?
Thanks
We would very much appreciate any tips on the transport from Murun to Lake Khuvsgul.
It appears some of the ger places are quoting 160,000 T one way! That can't be right. What is the situation on the ground and how best to get a fair deal?
Thanks.
Hi, my boyfriend and I are currently traveling in Central Mongolia. We had been wanting to see some of the Nadaam Festivities but so far have not made any. We have heard a rumor that there is a Nadaam festival in Terelj National Park on the 22nd of August. Does anyone know if this is accurate? More than this, it is a long way from where we are in Mongolia, does anyone have an opinion on whether or not this would be a fun and interesting experience?
My husband and I want to make our next trip to Mongolia. There's so much information out there and I feel a bit overwhelmed. We're both horse-people so we would love to include that of course. Any suggestions for a 7-10 itinerary that covers visiting nomadic villages and horseback riding?
Hi Guys !
I plan to fly to Mongolia, for a two month trip.
When I did similar, much longer, trips to South America & to the East,
I've enjoyed allot meeting ppl at the destination, and doing cool stuff together, like trekking.
However, I understand that September and especially October is the end of the season in Mongolia,
and trekking alone doesn't seem to be fun :)
So, to anyone who had been there at this time of year, how many travelers are there at this time?
Where do usually ppl organize…
I got my visa from the consulate in Hohhot, which is within walking distance from Anda guesthouse (www.andaguesthouse.com - nice home away from home place to stay with helpful staff – 60RMB/dormbed incl. light breakfast – free pickup - close to restaurant street). Make sure you check into the guesthouse before heading to the consulate since you need your passport to register.
I arrived at the consulate around 8.30am and there was already a long queue. It opened after 9 but they only let few…
