Hi there Yvonne.

You won't see the best of Mongolia, but there are still things to be done if you can bear the cold (-30 to - 40 ish?). I've never been this time of year, but I know Gans used to organise winter activities for ex-pats working there. You can ask him kbgans@yahoo.com.

The Mongolians survive as do their animals (except when they have 'zuuds' - a thaw then a really deep freeze). How long are you in China for? Maybe it's an option to visit on your way back?

hi everyone,
thanks for the kind advice and suggestion, if i do go to china, i will probably be there at most 2 weeks...
I'm not sure if i will be doing Mongolia now, looking at the prices of the tours, they don't seem very friendly to my backpacker's wallet

cheers
yvonne

Hi Yvonne. There are really big distances to cover in Mongolia, so it's not as cheap as you might expect. If you do make it there and are on a budget, try the Khongor Guesthouse - they offer backpacker tours and accommodation at a good price. http://get.to/khongor
