When is the best month to visit Mongolia

Warming up. not much rain, July August are the warmest and the rainy time.
July is when most tourist come for the Naadam festival, so in May it is easier to find accommodation, guides, etc.

Hi Dan, thanks a lot for your reply. Has the grassland turn green already in May?

Green - slowly, April is when the land is coming out of the frozen winter.
Every day of rain gets more green coming out.

Some warn of the sand/dust storms in May, but it is an exciting weather event to observe.
The storms come and go, if you are in a car you might have to stop and wait for a while until the storm moves on.

If you prefer to go to Mongolia when most of the services are available, but the crowds have not come yet,
and you want to go to the Gobi, when it gets warmer but not too hot,
and go up north when it is not freezing, and not too much rain
If you want to see nomadic herders on the move relocating to the summer locations
and want to see herds of Gazelles migrating (more in east Mongolia)
so MAY is a perfect choice.

You will miss the famous Naadam -
but you might see some pre Naadam preparations and maybe a local mini festival in the country side towards the end of May.

Have a nice time in Mongolia, you will love it.

wow, that is so great to hear, I am planning for May, do you think mid may or end may is better?
Do you also have any tips to share on accommodations, must visit places, transports, etc?
I'm travelling as budget as possible.

my suggestion is to visit Mongolia in beggining of June, as it will be more warm then in May. my friend told me that even in may sometimes is snowing and cold. But choice is up to you :)

Sometimes it does snow in May. I don't live there, but by my experience the weather can be a bit changeable. If it does snow, then I wouldn't expect it to last for long. But you never know.

It's not a damp country, so snow, rain aren't really unbearable. The landscapes are beautiful whether the weather is moody or bright.
