Hello There

I am going on a Horseback trip during first 2 weeks of July this year. We will start in UB and drive to Arhangay. From Arhangay we will be on a horseback for 8 days. I booked a trip through an agency and now I am looking into details of the trip. I would very much appreciate if someone can share with me their experience and also recommend what are some essential items to bring. Especially, I would like to know what kind of clothes to pack for UB and for the time I will be on the horseback. I will be in the city for about 4 days and rest will be out in the steppe.

Looking forward to hearing from you. Thank you. BL

First find out if it is a European or Mongolian saddle - if the latter bring a numbner ( padded material ) which normally goes beteween the saddle and the horse's back, but use it between the saddle and your bum, as the saddle will be wooden.
Most Mongolian horses don't like treats like polo mints etc so don't bother.
Take useful things to give as presents to any families you meet - pens, crayons, colouring books etc
Take photos of the Dalai Lama to give as presents to the adults.
Strong boots, thick full-length socks, a cap which shades the back of your neck if in mid-summer are all useful.
Take a good knife/penknife which you can give away when leaving, small binoculars, compass, LP Mongolian phrasebook.
Take something to spice up the rather bland food there - sweet chilli sauce, garlic, pepper etc.
Hope you have fun.
