What is the nicest way from Olgii to Gobi? Or is there a nice way to travel south from Olgii directly to the Chinese border?

Hi
Most tourists would take the main (dirt) road to UB, and from UB take the standard Gobi loop.
Off the beaten track you can leave the main road at Altai, Bayankhongor or Arvaikheer, these are the purple marked routes on this Google map . All three are great.
From there you can take the main route north to UB marked red, or take one of the off the beaten tracks east, marked blue on that map.
Icons on that map are best viewed in maximum zoom in satellite mode.
Going to the Chinese border, you can go to the popular Erlian crossing in south-east, or off the beaten track to the Bulgan crossing in south-west, the location is marked on this Google map , with detailed information on this page.
