Visa Extension
Thanks for the help with my previous question about visa extension.
Another question related to that: when they issue a visa extension, do they actually need to use up another visa page in the passport for that? I know it sounds like an odd question, but I ran out of empty pages in my passport and cannot add pages or get another passport right now from where I am.
Thanks a lot,
Anna

Hi Anna

First let me wish you success in your research for your dissertation on Kazakhs in Mongolia.
I personally will be happy to learn about your research findings.

Visa in Olgii general rule
Ruth is right about the general rule - extend your visa within 7 days of arrival in Ulaanbaatar.

Visa extension in Olgii - options - may work
First go to the tourist information in Olgii, talk to Ms. Nazgull the manager, ask her to call up UB for advice.
Next go to the government office and do your best to convince them to send your passport to UB for visa extension.
You will have to add the proper fees.
In emergency cases they are obliged to do it, so maybe they will be kind and offer to help you.

Travel agent option
Nazgull may help you find a travel agent going to UB and back that will for a fee do the extension for you.

Passport photocopy
Make a passport photocopy with the original visa for just in case.

When applying for your visa
Add a letter stating that you will be stationed in Olgii for your research and you intend to ask for extension while in Olgii.

Stamp passport
The extension stamp is a small size stamp, and they do not care where in the passport it is stamped.
So simply leave a note in your passport asking them to stamp on one of your used pages marked with a paper clip.
Ask Nazguul to write this request also in Mongolian.
