visa at Ulan Batar airport ?

Visas are available at the airport. I am not sure what they require but recently some of the embassies have been requiring letters of invitation, confirmation of accommodations or bookings or some proof that you are arriving with plans made.

Where are you now? Any chance that you can contact a Mongolian embassy near you?

As a US passport holder i don't need a visa for Mongolia so I don't have first hand knowledge.

Ruth, I am in Beijing. I went to the Mongolian embassy, I came back with the feeling to have no more information after than before. I got the application forms from the London embassy thanks to your advices. I wrote to a guesthouse in UB to get an invitation letter. I am waiting for their reply. I have time. My trip is planned in May. I still dont know whether I will fly directly to UB or enter overland. I mean get the visa in Beijing or at the UB airport. Anyway, thanks for your help, I often read your very helpful posts.

If you are in Beijing, why not apply for the visa there and be done with it? You have plenty of time.

Att: Not for everyone. Depend on which country are you from. For Arab, african& neibours-russian and chinese guests, they need invitation and should apply the visa at the mongolian embassy.
For invitation might be help you mongolian hostels where you have booking.

Michel - my travel agent in Ulaanbaatar says that French citizens cannot get a visa on arrival at the airport. If you are in Beijing, you might as well just get it there. You do need a letter of invitation.
