Hello mate, sorry I cant answer your question but thought id ask, how is it buying train tickets to beijing right now? if thats the way you choose...

Just wondering whether its easy enough to book a train ticket while your there considering I will be travelling in June/July.

Good luck!

I am not sure that I understand your question completely or correctly.

Do you have a double entry visa? If so, I assume that you are looking to head to the border and then return to China.

Are you simply looking for the next stop on a journey that has no real goals?

The cheapest way to UB from Beijing is the overnight bus to the border, then cross the border early in the day and take the local train from the Mongolian side to UB. Not sure of the current costs. Takes 2 nights plus the day in between.

International tickets for the train from Beijing to UB are expensive and only available 2 days a week. The cost is high because they cannot be purchased at the train station and you must go through an international travel agency such as CITS or Ocean travel.

An alternative is to buy the ticket for the train from Beijing to Erlian (Erenhot) which is the Chinese border town. (Train is only twice a week) Then while aboard the train see if the conductor will sell you the supplement to UB. This can be iffy depending upon your language skills and berth availability but it takes less time.

Yes, you can take the local daily passenger train from UB to the border town on Dzamyn ude, pay for a seat in a jeep to cross the border and then catch the bus to Beijing. This is the reverse of what I described.

In addition, four times a week there are express trains that cross the border. Two of these head to Beijing and the two to Hohhot.
