Hi, so I am going to Mongolia (male, early twenties, solo) in June through till July and was wondering a few things.

  1. Intrepid "Wild Mongolia" Tour.....is it worth the price tag or am I better off using a local Mongolian tour company? (remebering that I am travelling alone). I want to do a 2 week tour with preferably young people.

  2. After what ever tour I end up doing I want to go to Dadal. I am planning to go by myself, unless I meet people in UB that want to go their as well. There is a mini van that goes there and takes longer than 12 hours......would this trip be done in one go or would the driver stop the bus for the night and restart the trip in the morning? I am allowing one day to get there and one day to get back to UB, staying to Dadal for 3 days.

Any helpful hints would be great.

  1. I'm sure they go to Dadal in one day as I remember leaving UB in the morning & getting there in the late afternoon, though it was a private jeep ride.

Hi,

In answer to (1), I would recommend arranging a tour when in Mongolia. There will be lots of young people around at that time of year wanting to do the same thing. I did a similar thing a few years ago, and there are some details on my website www.jackfisher.org.uk if you are interested.

Jack.

I'd recommend checking out local tour operators. I was recommended Khongor (http://www.khongor-expedition.com). I went on their 7 day/6 night Gobi Desert tour in late August/early September 2010 and had an amazing experience. When I visited their office, there were always a lot of people there looking to go on their trips (probably because they also run a guest house) so finding travel companions for their tours doesn't seem like a problem. I went with four fellow volunteers and we had another person join us. Their price per person goes down as more people join the trip (min. 2 people and max. 6 people). So with 6 people, we paid $32 USD p.p.p day and most of us paid after the trip was over.

Yeah I though of using Khongor tours as they have some good reviews on trip advisor, pretty good price as well.

So there is a public transport option for getting to Dadal? And you get there in one day?

If anyone is interested I am arriving in UB on the 9th of June, so I might see you around.

Is it a bad Idea to travel Mongolia in March or April? I would like to do eagle hunting and to travel by horse for a while, what is the best way to organize this?

Thanks for reply, I am Super excited for Mongolia´=)
