Tickets are issued to travel agencies long before they are released to the public.
If you want to travel on the train from Russia to Mongolia and buy tickets, you must use a travel agency. I don't think you can buy those online.

Of course, I will use a travel agency but after surfing through the webpages of so many different agencies I thought it's good to know the "real prices" and also the accuracy of the information provided. Hopefully I will soon choose a travel agency and send them my itinerary.

Ok...here is something new for tickets for Russian Railway:
The Deutsche Bahn, German Railways Company (http://www.bahn.de) sells tickets for russian trains. Their system is connected to the Russian ticket system. I recently bought tickets for train 026 from Moscow-Novosibirsk and I did this exactly 45 days before the day of departure. The strange thing is that the price was really cheaper than the price I was getting from the online system of the russian railways (http://ticket.rzd.ru/wps/portal/pp) which gives you the possibility to buy the tickets online.

The only problem as I have found out is that you can buy tickets online or from DB only for routes in the Russian Federation. For example I have bought tickets from Irkutsk to Nauschki (border with Mongolia) and I hope that I can get buy the Nauschki-Ulan Bator part from Moscow hoping that I can stay on the bed I have already booked.
Has anyone done something similar?
Thnx
If your ticket is only to Naushki then you will have to cross the border separately or try to buy a ticket across the border. This is not very likely as only one kupé car/wagon actually crosses the border.
