Any suggestions for a good tour guide? Anyone know much about Nomadic Expeditions? Has anyone used SteppeRiders?
We want to go to the Arkhangai, Bayankhongor areas before we head down to the Gobi. Anything that is a "must experience/must see"?

Hi isn't nomadic Expeditions the super expensive & luxury travel company? We thought so looking at their website.

Sounds like what I plan to do this year, but in the reverse order. My logic is to go to the Gobi while it is cooler, then Arkhangai when it is a bit warmer. Anybody want to go me with let me know. I arrive UB May 17.

Try book your tour with Locally Owned Travel ventures, not with Foreign owned. In this way you will have great adventure and local people will benefit from your tour! If you need travel support please PM me or leave your mail address.

I recommend Gans, but don't know about his availability - kbgans@yahoo.com

Don't miss Terkhin Tsagaan Nuur (complete with extinct volcano). I've only passed through Bayankhongor, but I think there are hot springs in the Khangai mountains.

I hiked from Bayankhongor City to Shargaljuut Hot Springs last year. The hot springs are a cluster of huts on a hillside. There is also a sanatarium there. I didn't find anyplace to take a natural dip, so I kept going, over the mountains to Arvaikheer. I would NOT call these hot springs "must see." (The Mongols believe the waters will cure just about everything, though.)
