Im planning to be in Ulaan Baatar onthe 7th of Sep for a couple of days before going on a tour. Any suggestions on some nice hotels/GHs where I can stay? I prefer a place that is close to the restaurants and bars and is at the heart of the touristy haunts. All suggestions are welcome! Also, how safe is UB? Thanks a lot in advance! :)

I know Golden Gobi has gotten a bad rap in some posts, but I've stayed there and had no trouble. Can't get any more central than right next to Ikh Delguur, methinks. It's close to plenty of restaurants, and within walking distance to lots of attractions like Sukhbaatar Square. www.goldengobi.com
UB is pretty safe if you take the usual precautions; in particular, be careful to guard against pickpockets and don't go out alone to the ger districts after dark.
