Does anyone know the consequences for overstaying the Mongolian Visa more than 6 months? I have tried to contact both the Mongolian and the U.S. Embassy and no replies. I understand there is a fee and a blacklisting for at least 1 year, but do not know the fee.
Thank you.

Neither of those is going to be any help. You need to contact Immigration.

I would go to the office next to the airport immediately. What happens depends very much on what they believe you've been doing whilst overstaying.

If they think that you've been working then that would be very serious (you'll run into tax issues, work permit violations, etc.) but if you've only been touring then they might just deport you. BTW, voluntary, charity or NGO work all count the same as paid work so keep fairly quiet about anything you've been doing in that regard. I think that it will mean a lifetime ban from travelling to Mongolia though, never heard of a year's ban for such a long overstay.

Finally bear in mind that they won't let you leave till any penalty fee levied has been paid so have some idea of how you would settle any fine before you present yourself to them as this might help to smooth things over.

Good Luck!

#2 is right. Beside preparing what to tell them, also "clean" your smartphone from anything that you may not want them to see, in case they check it and see your emails or text messages.

There will be a hefty, hefty fee. Go to the embassy first and tell them about your predicament. It helps that they are informed in any case if you are detained.

Do you happen to know how hefty?

I doubt any of us have overstayed by that length of time. The only way to know is to front up at Immigration and grovel.

If you wish to be more prepared before you face the immigration people, you can enquire from a lawyer to see if they have any knowledge. Have you tried to check online or if there is any government publcations on such matter ?
