Hi,
we will go around Mongolia next July and we would like see the Naadam festival, but on our own.
Do you know if there is any tickets to see the festival and if yes, is it necessary to book the tickets in advance? Where?
Thank you.

Yes, there are tickets. Yes, you're better off booking a few days in advance. I booked mine through my guesthouse; the UBGH will probably be able to make reservations if you're not in Ulaanbaatar in time to do it in person

Letizia- Keep in mind that Naadam is 3 games: horse racing, wrestling, and archery. These three events do not happen in the same place. Most people when they say "I want to see Naadam" mean "I want to go to the big stadium" not realizing that they will not get to see the horse racing or archery. You can get tickets for the opening ceremonies at the stadium, July 11th. You can also arrange, through your guesthouse, to get a ride out to the horse racing fields to see the finish of the horse races, and typical carnival/festival atmosphere with tents, food, souvenirs, games, etc. Horse races are July 10, 11 and 12.
But keep in mind that these 3 are different activities, happening in different locations. I am not even sure where the archery was held last summer - there was a big hoopla over the traditional archery grounds being unavailable due to a large new hotel development.

Yes there are ticket better book in advance but not too early maybe a week before NAADAM. There are three different activities on different location. 1. Traditional Wrestling will be on stadium which is in the City 2. Horse Racing will be on horse racing field which is about 35km away 3. Archery will be on Yarmag area not too far from city. So you need too choose which one you want to see. If you want to read more about NAADAM you can visit web site below.
Welcome to Mongolia.

Don't go to the guesthouses. Just ask an individual to help out with bying a ticket.

Letizia - please don't just ask anyone to help you get tickets as qwerty recommends. There are counterfeit tickets out there, and you won't be able to tell the difference. Yes, the guesthouses will take a small commission, but it's better than getting there and being turned away. Most likely it will be sold out the day of the ceremonies, so you will be SOL if you have a fake ticket. Tickets will be about $10-15 depending on which section you want to be in. The guesthouse can also help you get a ride out to the horse racing fields, and possibly to the archery grounds as well.

Tickets for Naadam opening ceremonies go on sale July 8th. You are best advised to get assigned seats. General admission is cheap but you will never find a seat.

Hi,
I'm looking at getting tickets for the festival but not sure if i am paying too much ; for opening ceremony with tourist tickets, being brought to stadium, lunch etc and same again on the second day including transport to where the horse racing is taking place with tickets for 2 people is $120 each ; does this seem rasonable ?
thanks for any tips
