When asking visa questions, it helps to indicate your passport.

Look for some posts about this. If I recall correctly the consulate is not in the same location as the embassy and is not open daily.

Visa can also be obtained in Erlian, the border town. Price is the same. I think it is 495 yuan.

It would help to know your passport when asking visa questions.

You probably don't need a LOI but you might need a confirmation of accommodations. These thread might help. Mongolian visa in Beijing Jun2010 and Mongolian visa in Beijing Dec2010 Or you could search for recent reports.

HI. The person asking this question probably has all the answers by now, but I thought I coould share my experience about getting Mongolian visa in Beijing. The adress in LP is correct and the consular section is just behind the main building (from the side street) It says it is open from 9-12 but it only opened at 10. I was there at 8 and it payed off, there was only 3 people before me, but later there was really long line, so difficult to say if everybody got in by 12th. They invite in 2-3 people at once. I had letter of invitation which was sent to me by mail from Selena travels in Ulan bator. I didn't use any other of their services. I payed around 30 eur for the letter. I had russian visa already in my passport. I also included the photocopy of the ticket Irkutsk - Moscow, but nothing about how wil I actually leave the country. The official asked me how much time I need and because it was about a week he gave me a transit visa, valid for 10 days. It costed 315 yuan for the same day delivery. I got back at 16h and the visa was in my passeport. Quite easy and straightforward.
