Hi everybody!
Does please anybody know if we need our sleeping bags in our august mongolian trip?
We'll head west and south and sleep in camps like khogno khaan, misheel, bayan uul, shiveet mankhan, taikhar, ikh khorgo, gobi anar, juulchin gobi, dungenee, gobi suvraga, baga gazar. We'll also have some tent stays in the altai (altai town side) and it seems our guide will give us matresses and blankets there.
And, obviously, I'll be also very grateful for any nice tip for a great journey.
Thank you so much and have great trips!
Rita

Hi,

You won't need sleeping bags if you are staying exclusively in ger camps but if you are camping as well then you will definitely need them. I'm not sure where your guide will be finding mattresses from in Altai (unless they are inflatable) so bring sleeping bags anyway just in case.

It will get quite cold at night in Altai.

Good Luck,
Chris.

Please don't listen to anyone else. YES YOU will need a sleeping BAG. I have travelled in Mongolia 6 times and I NEVER go without a minus 10 sleeping bag.....It's not worth the risk....being cold...is bad. And you will be cold if you don't take it. :}} Enjoy Mongolia....it IS AMAZING!!!

Totally agree. Fall begins in August in Mongolia. On top of that I heard autumn has come early this year. Talked to some of my nomad friends today. They said a lot of families are already moving to their places in the mountains. One of them told me he has already started sleeping with 2+ blankets. Families will definitely give you extra blankets, but I would also take matters into my own hands and take a sleeping bag.

Never go without a sleeping bag, it can get really cold even in the summer at night.
It's better to take all the gear you need with you, as in UB it can be hard to get and/or over-priced.

thank you so much for your advices!
and sorry I didn't reply sooner but I couldn't check my mail from there (only managed to read rensina reply just before taking off...). In the end, I couldn't bring my sleeping bag but, thanks to your advices, I prayed our guide to find extra-extra-extra blankets for us and, luckily enough, he got them (and he was so kind not to ask for extra payment). We did not sleep in any really high site in the mountains around Altay town, so, luckily again, we only had one really cold night out of our 4 days camping. But anyway, yes, sleeping bag for the next time!
And yes, Mongolia IS really amazing. Amazing landscapes, people, feelings, things we've done. Amazing was the whole of it.
thank you so much again
and have wonderful trips
