Hello , just back from a two week trip. It was a small tour and went from the Gobi to the Lake.
1. If you do internal flights be aware that the 15 k weight limit, includes all carry on. It isn't expensive to be over, I was 20 K over and it cost me 15 U.S. Dollars.
2. The roads were worse than I thought. I would call them Jeep roads (dirt) Easy to get car sick.
3. A traditional Mongolia Barbecue includes picking out the sheep, watching them kill and butcher it. Very Barbaric, We thought.
4. The food was worse than I expected unless you can get the National food which is really good. It is mostly lamb or sheep. I was glad that I brought a great deal of trail mix and energy bars. There is a lot of the food at all times.
5. Beer and Drinks are really cheap at the Ger Camps.
6. The weather really does change, had shorts and then long johns on.
7. Personally I think you really have to have a reason to go to Mongolia, I didn't realize that the communist blew up all the temples, as a result you are shown ruins.
Hi, I used an organized tour company. will review them in a bit. I usually travel on my own, but I think it would be very difficult to do in Mongolia. Just no roads, or signs etc..and the lack of transportation

Hi humboldtraveler.
We're going to arrive in Mongolia in September, looking forward to the trip.
Your trips really helped us. Thank you for that!
We were wondering if you could be more specific on the tour agency and also on the sites/treks you saw. Also, when you have a guide/driver with you, does he actually tour around and hike with you when you arrive at the sites?
Thank you!
