I bought a motorcycle in Khovd (brand new Suzuki make 2012 - full paperwork) and would like to sell it in Ulaanbaatar around the end of August. Does anyone have any ideas for how to sell the motorcycle fairly quickly in UB? Is there any sort of dealership that buys used motorcycles or a private broker, or will I have to try and sell it through the Zakh (market) myself? I understand that given the time constraints I will get less money, but I would rather spend the time I have left in Mongolia touring around. The motorcycle is very reliable has had no problems and runs really well. I even rode it from Olgii to Tavan Bogd National Park and back in Bayan Olgii aimag without any problems. If anyone knows of a good way to sell a motorcycle fairly quickly, or wants to buy a motorcycle at a discount price to ride around Mongolia please let me know and we can arrange a time and a place to meet in Ulaanbaatar, Kharkhorin, or Tsetserleg (the route I will be taking back). Traveling around on the motorcycle has been a great way to see the country and visit places that would only be possible on expensive tours.

If anyone knows the best way to sell my motorcycle in Ulaanbaatar quickly please let me know.

If anyone is interested in buying a Suzuki made motorcycle that is only a few weeks old to travel around Mongolia in late August, please let me know.

Your help is much appreciated!

Best wishes,

Hi Offtomongolia

Sounds like you had an exciting experience on your motorcycle.

Where to sell -

  1. Post a message on the Northern Asia brunch of HorizonsUnlimited there are many more bikers on that forum.

  2. Visit Oasis Guesthouse - the ultimate hangout for bikers in UB. The owners will give you the best tips for selling.

  3. Visit the local bike markets: "Ikh Kurd' Market, "Tsahlai" Market, "Uguumur " Market, Motorcycle Expo.
The exact locations of each market and the location of Oasis on the UB motorbike market map

  4. Call off the map tours , they hold a stock of motorcycles for tourists and might be interested to increase their stock. Contact also the UK address.

Important note - The UB police have recently began enforcing registration, tax, and insurance policy on cars and motorcycles. It is aimed at educating locals, so I am not sure if they care to bother tourists. Just be aware of the possibility. The concept of registration and insurance in the past, was not enforced at all in the countryside, and not too much in UB, this has changed now.
