Any ideas on how much the rough daily cost will be in Mongolia? We are going to be in Mongolia for 6 weeks this summer and camping a lot and trying to travel cheaply.
Also, any idea how much a plane ticket from Ulaanbataar to Khovd is?
Thanks!

Hi IzzyRock
Flight cost
To Khovd in west Mongolia - is a little over $300 one way.
At present EZNIS is the only airline to schedule domestic flights in Mongolia.
General cost
PER PERSON PER DAY for transportation food and lodging in Mongolia
Organized tour with domestic flight ~~~~~ from $150 to $230 average $180
Organized land tours ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ from $60 to $180 average $90
Privately sharing a van with other tourists~ from $50 to $110 average $80
Using local transportation ~~~~~~~~~~~ from $10 to $40 average $25
Super budget
Camping out is a great way to experience Mongolia, there are no limitations on camping out.
Not many tourists use local transportation, but it is possible.
There are no set schedules, vans leave when they are full (squeezing full), the roads in most parts are not paved roads,
crossing rivers takes time, in some cases on a wooden barge (like on the way to Moron).
But it is a great budget way to experience the Mongolian way of life and Mongolian transportation.
The vans take you from one center to the other, like from Ulaanbaatar to Khovd.
From Khovd to locations in the region you will have to hire a jeep or van.

hi,
we have only been in mongolia (ulan bator) a day so i can only let you know what that day cost us.
hostel $6 each with breakfast inc
lunch cooked ourslef , we did stirfry and it cost aprox $6 for 3 people and big portions
dinner went to what we were told was a nice but exspensive resterant which did traditional food. we had 2xthe most exspensive meal (never seen so much foor and it came on 2 dinner plates and one trough each!) and 1xveg option (sadly only the one plate) and 3 beers total $30-32
and then 9 beers from super market for later $2
so i beleive if you cook yourself its not going to cost you a lot at all.
we are going to look at buying ether moterbikes or a tour today so i will try to get on later and let you know how that goes.

Hi
Since you are trying to travel on low budget I advise taking the bus to Khovd from UB. The bus ticket was 50,000 Tugrug last summer - that was about 40 USD then and I guess around 30-35 now unless the prices went higher.
The drive took 40 hours each way and was an experience.
Good luck
Yoni
