What is the best way to book a tourist Ger stay? Are there travel agencies in UB that can make the arrangements or do I have to book it in advance? Also, if I book in UB, do they have ger excursions on a daily basis or only on selected days? Finally, are most of the tourist ger camps in the Gobi desert?

A lot of answers will depend upon when you are traveling. During the summer tourist season lots of things are daily and during the winter they may be less often or not at all.
No, tourist gers aren't all in the Gobi. There are some near UB.

You can use travel agencies for booking tourist ger camps in advance. There are pretty much of tourist camps near UB and other travel destinations in Mongolia, not only in a gobi desert!

I just returned. I rented a jeep and driver and just drove to randome ghers and was always greeted with upmost hospitality and welcomed to stay the night. I would thank them for their stay the next day with about $10, which they always were thankful to receive.

How did you go about renting a jeep and driver? Are there travel agencies in UB that can arrange this? What is the price/day for a jeep and driver? Were you alone or were you able to organize a group for the jeep?

Nomads is the company-just google them. Price was 55$/day with driver up to 100km/day for a russian jeep.. After 100km's 75 cents a kilometer. The driver spoke some english and had a stove and also cooked. I had a friend with me to split the cost. It is a good deal. You can decide where to go. Be sure to provide a loose itinerary so if you decide to change things the driver isn't caught off gaurd and too dismayed with drving more then expected.
